Introduction to Jalani Vickers’ Artistic Journey

Al Neely: Welcome to ListenUp. Today we’re joined by Jalani Vickers, a young creative whose work is already making an impression. At just 12 years old, Jalani is developing his voice as an artist and learning how creativity, discipline, and imagination work together.

Jalani Vickers: Thank you for having me. I started drawing when I was really young, mostly with pencil sketches at my desk. Over time, I began experimenting more and learning how to turn ideas into finished pieces.

Al Neely: Your work shows a strong sense of storytelling. Where does that come from?

Jalani Vickers: I like reading graphic novels because they helped me understand pacing, characters, and emotion. I also get inspired by city life and urban scenes, even when I’m imagining places instead of copying them.

Al Neely: How important has support been in your growth as an artist?

Jalani Vickers: It’s been really important. Having encouragement and guidance helped me stay focused and confident. It made me want to keep practicing and improving.

Al Neely: What would you say to other young people who want to explore art?

Jalani Vickers: Don’t be afraid to start small. Just keep creating and learning. The more you practice, the more confident you become.

Al Neely: Jalani, thank you for sharing your journey. Your story shows that creativity and discipline can grow at any age.
